Accounting - Three Major Areas

There are three major functional areas in accounting, which need to be considered in modern day accounting for any business. The three are financial, cost and management accounting.

The first area, namely financial accounting, is primarily useful for ascertaining the results of the business on a periodical basis; for example, one year. This will help to determine the future course of action in the long term. In economical terms, financial accounting treats money as a factor of production.

Cost and management accounting are tools to enable management to take decisions on a day-to-day basis. Cost and management accounting are not useful for their own sake. These two functions assist management in the conduct of the business along with other key factors involved in running of the business. Key factors could be demand, supply, competition, availability of raw material, logistics etc.

Accounting - Three Major Areas

The second area, namely cost accounting, seeks to ascertain the value of direct costs and indirect costs involved in production . From this value, management can make an informed decision regarding the improvement of production performance. In economic terms, cost accounting is a measure of economic performance. This information gives management a clear indication of economic performance of the production resources of the business.

Costing also helps the sales manager in setting prices. But since costing is a measure of economic performance, it cannot be considered as an absolutely accurate basis for setting prices. This is because selling prices are more of an economic decision. It would not be amiss to mention here that prices depend basically on market factors. Prices depend more on demand, supply and competition and less on costs. For example, high demand coupled with lack of competition would mean that business could charge higher prices for its products, well above the costs.

The third area, namely management accounting, is closely interrelated with costing accounting. Although it has evolved from cost accounting, management accounting has a broader role to play in management decisions. It measures economic performance of the business enterprise as a whole, vis-a-vis the economic environment in which the business operates. This function of accounting seeks to combine the financial and cost information in a broader aspect.

Finally, management accounting is instrumental in assisting and advising management in making important business decisions. It makes management aware of the economic implications and consequences of their decisions. In economic terms, it implies a close study of money as an economic resource, while simultaneously treating it as a measure of economic performance. This enables management to measure it as an economic factor of production, e.g. the rate of return on capital employed.

It is thus seen that accounting has a distinct role to play in three different areas, which are equally vital. With the advent of computerised accounting, it has become very easy for management to monitor the accounting information on the tips of its fingers. Financial accounting programs enable financial statements and various cost and MIS statements to be produced almost instantly at push of a button. Now, only the laborious part of accounting is data entry. Financial managers must ensure that meaningful data is input into the system to produce meaningful information. Proper categorisation must be done and keying errors avoided at all costs, ensuring providing accurate financial information to management.

Top 10 Natural Foods to Lower Cholesterol Safely and Naturally

The cholesterol in blood comes from two main sources: the foods we eat and what we manufacture. Cholesterol levels that are too high or too low in the blood can be a very dangerous factor, often leading to a heart attack or a stroke. There are many people who take statin drugs to reduce their cholesterol. However, there are many natural foods that you can eat to help lower cholesterol safely and naturally without the use of dangerous statin drugs. You may notice a substantial improvement in your cholesterol level once you begin consuming these whole foods on a daily basis.

Here is a list of the top 10 natural foods to help maintain a healthy cholesterol level in the body.

Oat bran and brown rice bran are the best foods for reducing cholesterol. They are rich in soluble fiber, thereby lowers cholesterol levels by binding fats and heavy metals. Blueberries (organic) alone may help lower cholesterol as effectively as statin drugs! Berries, in general, help prevent oxidation of bad cholesterol and they are super abundant in antioxidants. Fish is a good source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids, which has been shown to lower LDL cholesterol and raise HDL cholesterol. Omega 3 fatty acids also help to lower triglyceride levels. Garlic contains allicin and can have a powerful antioxidant effect. Lowers cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Apples contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. Apple's two kinds of fiber are useful for reducing cholesterol levels and for decreasing your risk of hardening of the arteries, stroke, and heart attack. Apple's insoluble fiber works to remove LDL from the body, while apple's fiber pectin reduces the amount of LDL cholesterol made in the liver. Nuts are abundant in fiber, phytonutrients and antioxidants such as vitamin E and selenium. Nuts also contain plant sterols and the healthy fats (mono-and polyunsaturated). Beans are high in soluble fiber; lowers the bad cholesterol and raises the good cholesterol. Other foods high in soluble fiber include lentils, peas, and ground flaxseeds. Foods with Plant Sterols (or stanols) are powerful phytosterols found in plant membranes that may block cholesterol absorption. Sterols are found naturally in several kinds of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, cereals, legumes, and vegetable oils. Olive oil has been known to reduce LDLs, raise HDLs, and is rich in antioxidants. Soy protein -studies show that a total daily intake of 25 grams of soy protein significantly lowers LDL cholesterol levels. Soy has a high amount of polyunsaturated fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals. Soy products are also a great replacement for animal products.

Top 10 Natural Foods to Lower Cholesterol Safely and Naturally

Last but not least, it's important to keep in mind that cholesterol is found only in animal products, not plant foods. Therefore, eating fewer animal foods and more plant foods will lower the blood cholesterol. If you already have high cholesterol, temporarily changing to a vegetarian diet with fish and non-fat dairy products, such as yogurt may help lower your levels quickly.

10 Ways To Establish Rapport With Anyone - Fast!

Establishing rapport - having people like us and remember us fondly - is an invaluable skill. Whether you are in a business, a friendship, a relationship, selling, or just want to be more well-liked - rapport building skills can help you reach your goals. I use some of these skills to develop rapid rapport with my business, counseling and coaching clients. Remember that the key to all rapport building is sincerity and bringing a true love of others to your new relationships. With that in mind, lets get started:

Listen - Listening is the 'King' of all rapport building skills. EVERYONE loves to be listened to! Think about it. How do you feel when someone ignores you or talks over you? Do you feel connected to these people? NO! Who are the people you are closest too? I highly suspect that they are the people who listen to you intently and are concerned about your issues and wellbeing, right? Listening says, "I'm listening because you, and therefore, what you have to say, are important." People's greatest desire is to be truly listened to. Help them accomplish this most important goal, and they will like and admire you for it. Practice "conversational generosity" - don't speak more than 30% of the time (10-20% is optimal).
Link Interests - Opposites DON'T Attract!!! People like each because of their similarities. So, whenever possible, notice similar interests and be sure to talk about and expand on them. This may take some searching and questioning to discover their interests - that's okay - people will be glad that you are so interested in them that you ask several questions about them. Even if you don't have any similar activities, have them discuss an area you find interesting or want to explore. For example, my old boss Mark loves golf. I have never played, but have a sincere interest in learning the game, so I asked him to explain some things about the game to me. He was thrilled that I was interested and complimented that I wanted him to be my teacher and valued his advice. Think of ways you can use this tool.
Ask For Advice - An old quote by Thoreau states, "The greatest compliment ever paid me was when someone asked me what I thought, and attended to the answer." Asking for advice is perhaps the most sincere compliment you can pay to a person. You also have to humble yourself ever so slightly to ask for advice, and this vulnerability will create a sense of openness and trust between you. People are always happy to give advice and will associate that sense of happiness to you quickly. Aren't your friends the ones whom you go to for advice? How can this person give you advice and not be your friend? See how strong this link is? People also admire someone who can ask for and accept advice. So few people can do this well, that it has become an admirable trait. Try it and see.
Compliments & Praise - No, this is NOT "kissing up" or being phony - this never works! What we are looking to do is notice praise-worthy things people discuss and mention them to the person. Notice the difference in the next two responses. Your new friend tells you they just won an award for helping children and you say either "that's great!" or "Wow, that's quite an accomplishment! You must have made a tremendous contribution to the lives of those children, you should be very proud." Which response would you rather hear? Are they both true? Yes! Will one response have more impact and create a stronger connection? Definitely, yes! Noticing and commenting on the good people do and their special qualities is a great way to live, it is classy, and a great way to connect with others.
Demonstrate Liking & Appreciation - Most people instinctively like people who like them (and vice-versa). Many people like each other, but rarely tell each other. I make it a point to tell my friends that I like them and appreciate them - they already know this, but it's still great to hear. With people I've just met, if I like them, I say things like "It's been great getting to know you; I love to meet warm, open people."" I really liked the way you talked about (BLANK).""Thank you for making me feel so welcome in your home. I had a great time today - let's pick another time to get together soon." These are just a few examples. Can you come up with better ones? Sincere appreciation like this supports friendship and cements relationships.
Adopt Their Values/Beliefs - As you are listening to the other person speak, notice their values/beliefs, and discuss areas where your values/beliefs sincerely overlap with theirs. Remember when I said it is best to speak 30% or less of the time? Take at least half of this time and use it to agree with, support, or expand on whatever the other person was talking about. You will never make a friend by disagreeing with them. Let points you don't agree with slip by, and chime in when you hear something you agree with. By doing this you will make a friend, and at the same time, subtly promote the areas you believe in and starve the areas you don't.
Enthusiasm - Communication is the transfer of energy/emotion. Everyone seems to love someone with enthusiasm because we all admire it and wish we had more! Enthusiastic people seem to brighten up a room with their positive energy, and we want that to rub off on us, we want to be a part of it. When someone is enthusiastic about our thoughts and ideas we immediately feel understood, appreciated and just plain great! No one will ever be offended by you getting excited about their ideas!
Matching and Mirroring - Matching & mirroring simply means that we match the approximate characteristics of the other person to help create alignment with them. Therefore, if they cross their legs do the same shortly after. If they tend to talk more slowly, slow your rhythm down so it is closer to theirs. If they use certain lingo, you can use it later in the conversation. If they are reserved, you be more reserved. And so on. Remember, we like people who are like us. This is a natural process that most people do unconsciously anyways - now you can know to do it consciously. It is a very powerful tool because vocal tone/speed and body language account for 93% of communication. This tool will make people very comfortable around you and is a very subtle technique.
Smile & Warmth - The first contact with another person is your face! Make sure that you present as warm, friendly and happy. A smile and a sincere desire for friendship will resonate in your voice and be demonstrated in your every action. First impressions are powerful; present the way you want to be remembered - SMILE! Smiling shows that you are happy to see the other person and like them. Smiling and warmth make others feel good around you - this is a lost skill - use it and you will shine.
Attending Skills - This simply means that you attend to the needs of the people you are with. It follows the lines of simple good manners, i.e., holding the door for someone, offering them a drink or a chair, buying them lunch, shaking their hand right away when you see them, etc. Almost any small courtesy or act of kindness falls in this category. These simple acts say without words that the other person is like, respected and appreciated. (And an action is worth what? That's right! A thousand words!)

How Lemons May Help to Fight Cancer - How a Little Bit of Chemistry Goes a Long Way

Recent studies have emerged showing that some elements in lemons can help to alleviate the effects of cancer and the side effects of medical treatment for cancer. They can also help in the prevention of cancer and possibly, the movement or growth of cancer cells.

Whether it is taken in the form of lemon juice, as a lemon essential oil or as the lemon itself to flavor another type of food or drink, one can access the cancer prevention and treatment qualities of the wonderful fruit that is lemon.

Here is a list of some ways that lemon can help a person who is afflicted with cancer:

How Lemons May Help to Fight Cancer - How a Little Bit of Chemistry Goes a Long Way

1. Lemons have phytochemicals. The limonene that is found in the rind of lemons is a powerful phytochemical. Take note: Phytochemicals are not nutrients. They are plant chemicals which the lemon plant produces as a means of self protection. One could equate it in this way with the body's immune system.

New research shows that phytochemicals can also help to protect humans against disease, too. The anticancer qualities of limonene work by increasing the amount of enzymes in our bodies that detoxify carcinogens. We refer here to Glutathione S-transferase, or GST, in particular. Limonene promotes the levels of GST in our small bowel and liver. With more GST in our bodies, more carcinogens are destroyed.

There have also been studies conducted with animals which show that limonene helps to reduce the growth of mammary tumors. This has enhanced hopes about the possibility of limonene in lemon rinds helping in the treatment of breast cancer in humans. The terpenes in lemons can stimulate enzymes that render estrogen less effective, and it is thought that in this way, it can perhaps reduce the risk for breast cancer in humans.

Limonene also functions by inhibiting the effects of free radicals which may sometimes lead to cancer. Because limonene works as an antioxidant, the free radicals are destroyed.

To get the most out of your lemon, don't throw the peel away. Just wash the rind very well, then zest it (don't include the bitter white pith). Add this to baked foods, hot tea, yogurt and soups and you can take advantage of the full health and cancer prevention benefits of limonene.

2. Lemons bring out anticancer ingredients in green tea. We refer in particular to the catechins of green tea. Catechins are unique antioxidants that help to reduce the risk of cancer by inhibiting cancer cell activity and strengthening one's immunity. Unfortunately, after digestion only 20 percent of total catechins from green tea remain in the body. This is because catechins are volatile and are unstable in non-acidic settings such as the intestines.

However a Purdue University study showed that citrus juice (like lemon juice) can increase catechin levels in our bodies to more than five times, and lemon juice had the best results of all citrus fruit causing up to 80 percent of the green tea's catechins to remain.

When tea is taken with lemon juice, the catechins interact and the lemon's stabilizing power permits the greatest percentage of ability to withstand the degradation brought about in the intestines.

Lemon essential oil when used with aromatherapy is an acceptable form of supportive care, the National Cancer Institute says. Supportive care is defined as care that is rendered to enhance the quality of life of cancer patients. The goal in supportive care is not to cure, but to prevent the symptoms of cancer, or to treat the symptoms when they occur. Supportive care with lemon essential oils in aromatherapy can also be used to treat the side effects that are brought about with medical treatment for cancer. Some of these side effects may be social, spiritual or psychological in nature. The anxiety and stress for example that a cancer patient may feel could be reduced with an aromatherapy massage using lemon essential oils. In a nutshell, supportive care has more to do with symptom management and comfort care than with cure.

Lemon essential oil is very concentrated. It is produced in special cells in the lemon plant that are usually found under the leaves of the plant or in its peel. It should be either distilled with steam or water; or pressed. If chemicals are used in its making, it cannot be considered an essential oil.

How does lemon essential oil aromatherapy work? There are several theories, but the most adhered to belief is that the smell receptors in our nose react to the aroma of the lemon essential oil and conveys a message through the nerve endings to our brain's limbic system. This is the part of our brain which is the center of our emotions and feelings. Imaging studies have backed the effects of smell on the limbic system.

Aromatherapy is administered in many ways, including through inhalation either indirectly by using a room diffuser or directly with the use of an individual inhaler; or through an aromatherapy massage. It is not advisable to take lemon essential oil orally.

A massage with lemon essential oil has the added benefits of helping a person to relax, relieve pain and stress, improve circulation and lower blood pressure. Studies are also being made to see how it can help other cancer symptoms such as experiencing a lack of energy, swelling and depression.

Studies have shown the benefits of aromatherapy in cancer patients and many have said aromatherapy treatment with lemon and other essential oils improved their sense of wellbeing, the National Cancer Institute said.

Aromatherapy is not regulated by law in the United States. However there are two organizations that have national educational standards for aromatherapists. These are The Alliance of International Aromatherapists and the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.

There used to be a time when anything that was substandard was called a 'lemon.' There was also the saying, "when life hands you a lemon, make lemonade," which was another way of saying, make the most of anything you get that is below par. But today we know that lemons are among nature's most precious gifts to us.

When life hands us a lemon, we should use every single part of it.

To your good health!

Vitamin D12 Benefits For Your Health and Wellbeing

The 12 benefits of adequate Vitamin D3 (CHOLECALCIFEROL) are easily identified from the medical literature. These benefits appear in enough different places that it can be assumed the studies are valid.

Adequate levels of Vitamin D3 protect against Breast Cancer. One problem with cancer cells is that they don't destruct when they are supposed to. They keep dividing and reproducing. Vit. D receptors are present on most cells in our body and help to trigger appropriate cell death, and identify to the immune system the correct cells it should eliminate. Ditto for Cancer of the Colon (large bowel). Both colon cancer and breast cancer are increased in people of color. The same people most likely to have lower levels of Vitamin D3 in their blood. People who have more pigment in their skin need 30% more sun exposure to produce enough cholecalciferol. Anyone and especially dark skinned individuals need to supplement if they live in northern latitudes that have more months of reduced sunshine per year. Vitamin D regulates absorption of calcium and phosphorus which are needed for healthy bones. Low levels of D3 are associated with poor bone development in children and bone softening in adults called osteopenia if mild or osteoporosis if advanced. Vitamin D3 is associated with proper immune function. It is no coincidence that the "cold season" is during winter months when there is less sunshine. The Brain's health is dependent upon a number of factors and one of them is adequate levels of Vitamin D3. Keeping adequate levels of Vitamin D3 in our blood and tissues is associated with decreased aging changes in our body. Want to keep your vitality longer? Make sure you get enough Vitamin D in your diet or enough sunshine in your life. Certain female gynecologic infections are associated with inadequate blood levels of Vitamin D3. Bacterial Vaginosis is the most common of these and hardest to control. If you have vaginitis and it won't clear, check your 25OH Vitamin D blood levels. Insulin is a very important hormone but it can be over or under secreted. Vitamin D helps regulate insulin secretion. Many patients, especially women complain of joint pain and fatigue. Some of them have been given the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. Inadequate blood levels of D3 are associated with these aches, pains and fatigue. Get your 25OH vit D levels checked or take a therapeutic trial of 1000IU/day and keep a journal of your symptoms. Auto-immune disorders wreak havoc with tissues in our body. Common diseases that are caused by auto immune dysfunction are diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and hypo-thyroidism. Adequate levels of Vit. D3 in the blood and tissues decreases the risk and severity of such diseases. Hypertension is associated with inadequate blood and tissue levels of several minerals and vital substances like potassium, calcium, selenium, and you guessed it Vit. D3. Vitamin D3 if kept at adequate levels in the blood is associated with a decreased risk of death from any cause. It isn't a panacea, but it obviously plays a more important role in our health than was realized for any years.

A Lost Relationship - Learning How to Walk Away

There you were, deeply involved in a relationship. It may have been stormy or you may have thought everything was running smoothly. Then it happened: Your significant other no longer wanted to be your significant other. This scenario happens almost every moment of every day, but when it happens to you, your whole world can focus on this. Many people that do not want the relationship to end will go into a panic to keep the relationship alive. Most of these attempts are in vain. When a relationship ends, it can be a heartbreaking, emotionally crippling time, and there are strategies you can implement to learn to let it go.

It is important to understand that as much as you may wish, you simply cannot control another person's thoughts or feelings. Even if you feel they are unjustly ending the relationship or you do not see any logic in their choice, they possess the freewill to do with their life as they wish. It is sometimes enormously painful to accept this fact, especially if you feel you have given so much of yourself to this other person. When they choose to walk away from you, you may feel a very strong craving to stop the progress of their actions. When feeling that you deserve something from this person, it can cause you to behave in very improper way. This behavior is detrimental to your emotional wellbeing.

There is no debate regarding the poignant pain that is involved in a breakup or divorce. There is not a magic way to completely stop the misery you will feel from the loss of this person. However, there is a way to control these feelings. No amount of pleading, begging or bribery can change how a person feels about you. Once you accept this fact, you can then move on to take actions to behave dignified and accept the end of the relationship with your esteem intact.

A Lost Relationship - Learning How to Walk Away

If the following sounds familiar, you have not learned the art of letting go. When faced with the end of a relationship, have you called that person endlessly will pleas to be reunited? Have you contacted the other person and promised to change your behavior to better accommodate their needs? Have you attempted repeatedly to question them as to why they are choosing to leave you? All of these are clear-cut signs that you have a difficult time letting a dead relationship go. All of these signs only make the situation worse for you.

When pleading with another person to "begin loving you again", you are setting yourself up for disaster. You cannot talk someone into loving you. You may be a wonderful, caring, kind and compassionate person, however if someone who was in your life does not feel they want continue the relationship, you cannot force them. You already must deal with the loss of the relationship. Love is a choice of freewill. To beg, plead or otherwise, will only lead to feeling defeated once again.

It is exceedingly difficult indeed, to control the desire to reach out to the person who left you. When you are so used to conversations with them or seeing this person everyday, it will throw your world upside-down when you must deal with a sudden end of communication and a physical connection. Realizing that calling the person, trying to "accidentally run into them" or other means of contact is futile, you must learn to distance yourself. This must be done in the name of self-respect.

If you can be emotionally strong enough to know that nothing you do can bring this person back to you, you can leave with dignity. If you harass this person, in an attempt to reunite, added suffering is imminent. It can be so frustrating to plead, beg and try to persuade someone and have him or her repeatedly reject you. The best road to take is one of complete and utter non-communication. Once knowing you do not possess the power to control their feelings and actions, control your behavior. You will have moments of weakness and there are steps you can take to overcome these.

Resist the urge to "show up accidentally" in places that you know you will run into them. You may think it is a great idea to spend hours making yourself look fantastic and then going to a restaurant, bar or otherwise that the person frequents. Your plan will be to show them how wonderful you look and they will regret their mistake of leaving you. Your plan will actually make the other person fully aware of your plan, and they will think your plan is pitiable. Whatever reason they had for leaving the relationship, whether unfounded or not, will remain intact. Flaunting yourself in front of them is akin to screaming out, "Look at me! Why do you not want me?". Do you really want to seem that deprived?

Do everything possible to stop yourself from calling them on the telephone. Delete their number from your cell phone. Another good option is to leave their number, but to change their contact name to something along the lines of, "No! He/she treated me horribly". This is a good strategy to prevent you from calling them, in the moments that you are feeling weak. You can also tape a note to your home phones. One suggestion is to write something such as, "Do not call him/her, they broke your heart and you will look like a fool if you keep calling!". These may sound rather silly now, but when in a state of a broken heart, it is common to act irrationally and these tips can stop your foolish behavior.

If you are used to instant messaging with this other person, and you wish to leave your messenger intact on your computer for messaging with others, there are several options. Firstly, you should opt to create a new user name and inform only your friends, family and others that you do wish to communicate with of your new name. If you choose to keep your user name, obviously, you should delete your ex's name off your list. If you are not emotionally strong enough to do so yet, you should at least opt to change their contact name, so that their name will show as "Ex- do not IM him/her!" or anything that will prompt you to not contact them.

You may feel a very strong urge to leave phone messages, or offline instant messages to the other person who left the relationship. You may feel you have an endless array of things to say to this person. Alternatively, you may feel you must get the last word in, but it never ends there. If you allow yourself to leave these messages, you will always find something new to add. The other person is most probably ignoring or deleting your messages, it will not bring them back to you, and all of your efforts will be in vain. Once you have implemented the means to prevent yourself from contacting them, do realize this: As absurd as it sounds at the moment, as much as your heart is aching, as much as you feel you were unfairly treated, as much as you feel you know you were the "best thing to ever happen" to them, time will change your feelings.

It is one of the most frequently used clichés when a relationship ends; however, time does heal all wounds. When using the term "heal" this does not mean that you forget this person forever. It does not mean that you will live the rest of your life without this person's name or image appearing in your mind. It does mean that given a certain amount of time, the image and memories of this person will fade.

If you follow these guidelines to end the relationship quickly and not drag the breakup into a long process, there will be a day, not too far in the future, that you realize this person was not the right one for you. You desire a good person, someone who cares for you unconditionally, someone to support your decisions, and someone to walk through life with. If this person leaves you, heartbroken and alone, they are proving they possess none of the qualities that you were looking for in a mate. You may feel misled, lied to, or tricked. The reality remains that they ultimately did not measure up to having the qualities needed in a relationship with you.

At one time or another we have all wished we had the power to make someone loves us. We have prayed for their return. We have deprived ourselves from sleep while pondering what we could have done to stop them from leaving. We have spent endless hours wondering how they could leave us. In the end, all of that time spent is needlessly, we will never obtain the answers. Only one fact remains: Everyone has freewill to do as they wish. When a person leaves you, learn to let it go.
